Contact your Senator

Posted on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 7:23 AM by

Please join us and send a letter to your Senators on supporting millions of Americans who are out of work through no fault of their own.  Tell them this should take priority over irresponsible tax cuts benefiting only the wealthiest two percent!
On Dec. 1, less than two weeks from now, the unemployment insurance program covering 2 million Americans will end. If Congress fails to act before then to extend the program, these struggling Americans will be left with no income. Worse yet, over the next five months, the total could rise to nearly 6 million unemployed Americans, further slowing our recovering economy and, in turn, resulting in more job loss.
While time runs out for struggling Americans’ unemployment insurance, Congress is considering extending tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent of Americans. These cuts would limit the federal government’s ability to provide much-needed support to states and funding for critical education, health and job-training programs, since they would increase the deficit by $700 billion over the next 10 years.

·         Support Extension of Unemployment for America’s Workers
Tell your Senators to vote to continue unemployment insurance to the end of 2011 AND to oppose extension of the Bush tax cuts, which benefit only America’s wealthiest two percent.
If Congress fails to extend the unemployment insurance program, 2 million struggling Americans will be left with no income starting on December 1. This will slow an already-sluggish economic recovery and could result in further job loss.
At the same time, extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans will increase the deficit and limit the federal government’s ability to fund critical education, health, and job training programs.
Tell your Senators that we need to support millions of Americans who are out of work through no fault of their own, instead of extending an irresponsible tax cut benefitting only the wealthiest two percent.

Thank you for your support
